Polar Bear Enclosure at Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park

Chapelstone Zoo Construction designed and constructed the Polar Bear housing at Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park in Suffolk – the first to be built this far south for over 60 years.

Chapelstone worked with Stevie Sheppard, park director at Jimmy’s Farm, to design the new facility. Extensive research was carried out as the team visited existing housings such as the Polar Bear enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park and others within Europe to produce a new and improved enclosure. Chapelstone designed the cage work in a modular fashion, allowing panels to be removed and modified if required, for a truly adaptable facility. The building within which the cage work sits has been designed for maximum airflow, security for the rangers, and welfare of the Polar Bears.

Inspectors who have approved the housing say that it is “a world-class facility”

The total facility with its lakes, woods, and housing is now the largest Polar Bear enclosure in Europe.

The Initial Polar Bear, Ewa, has been rescued from a zoo that is closing down in Sweden, so she is a very lucky bear. She has now been joined by Floke, Tala and Hope. All the bears have settled in well.
